Growing up in Arizona to a family of Arab, Mexican and German descent, state Rep. Athena Salman developed a deep appreciation for our country’s shared history and future potential. Rep. Salman is best known for tirelessly working to advance the rights of vulnerable populations in powerful institutions. Last year her bill, HB2222, received national attention for the lack of feminine hygiene products for female prisoners leading to an immediate policy change within the Dept. of Corrections. She has received multiple acclaims for her advocacy for diverse communities, including the Phoenix New Times’ 2018 Best Politician and Arizona Republic’s Top Ten Newsmakers to Watch in 2019.
Rep. Salman represents District 26 (Tempe, Mesa, Phoenix and the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community) in the Arizona House of Representatives and is the Whip for the Democratic Caucus.
